steve.jpgWhen I opened my solo office in September of 2000, I did what any startup wanting to succeed would do; I worked to keep the overhead low. As a part of that effort, I decided not to hire a secretary and, instead, leverage technology and my knowledge of same to do more with less. Over six years later, I am still doing more with less, making a good living, and still do not have a secretary.

I have always been interested in technology and often drool over all the new things that come out. However, as a businessman, I have to look at the cost, the chance that the new, gee-wiz product will actually deliver on its promises, and that I will get a significant return on my investment. I therefore decided to start this blog to talk about not only what technology is out there, but how my fellow solos, as well as small firms, can benefit. Hopefully, you will find something here that helps you do more with less as well.

As another lawyer interested in legal technology and Linux particularly, I was very impressed by your post on Linux in the Law Office. I am trying to encourage lawyers to continue the discussion about what Linux has and what it lacks for lawyers on the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/group.php?groupid=209 . We would be very pleased to have you join us!
